Pre-Press Pro is a script for Adobe Illustrator, made for screen printers. It automates the last steps of preparing art for output: placing registration marks, labeling each color, and setting a mesh count for each color.
How it works
The maker’s page describes three steps. Run the script from Illustrator’s Scripts menu, or give it a keyboard shortcut. Pick the settings: where the registration marks go, a mesh count for each color swatch, and a few other options. Then the script places the marks and labels, and the file is ready to output. The maker says both the marks and the mesh counts can be customized.
In an April 2021 post and video, the maker showed that custom marks feature using a free pack of nine registration marks in vector format. The post offers the pack as a free download on its own, for anyone who wants to try a different mark, with or without the script.
What it costs
Version 2 is $99 USD through the store’s cart. The page mentions no subscription and no trial. It does not say whether the price is one time, which versions of Illustrator the script runs in, or whether it works on both Mac and Windows. The same store sells a garment swatch pack for Photoshop at $19, a print-ready limits test file at $9 and an emulsion over mesh worksheet at $9.
Who makes it
Floodway Print Company, a screen printing and embroidery shop in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. By its own account it has printed for brands, bands, businesses and events since 2014. The 2021 post about the script is signed by Cory.
Getting your data out
The maker’s pages make no statement about data. The script runs inside Illustrator, on the buyer’s own computer.
Written from the maker’s pages and its 2021 post. I have not bought it or run a file through it.
